Dangerous Cosmetics

We get so much dangerous chemicals into our bodies everyday - and very often we don't even know about that. Not only we breathe in the polluted air, and eat chemically treated fruit and vegetables - you can also find it in almost all cosmetics products, foundations, creams, shampoos, toothpasts and so on ...

Today's post will be about foundations. We use cream, gels and other cleansing cosmetics products to get better and clearer skin. We can achieve that for a while but paradoxically we're destroying our skin over the long term. So then we cover all the blemishes and the dryness of our skin with layers of makeup and powder under which the skin cannot breathe. And so this cycle continues again and again.

There's an infinity of cosmetics review on the Internet, so in this "review", I'm gonna focus on something a little bit differnet. I won't write anything about the coverage, lasting or prices. I'm going to introduce you to the ingredients of these products instead and tell you a bit about what these substances does to our skin and our health ...

MAX FACTOR Lasting Performance

• Dimethicone - a silicone that soothes the skin and helps to eliminate foaming of the product. It creates protective layer on the skin, that retains moisture. On the other hand this barrier prevents the natural functions of the skin. The skin no longer pvodies fat layer and it's getting dry. The layer created by dimethicone is impermable which causes clogging pores, that can lead to worsening acne and blackheads.
  
• Paraffin - it's made of petroleum, it dries the skin, cloggs the pores, deepen wrinkles and it leads to premature aging og the skin. Paraffin can also irritate the skin and it can accumulate in liver, kidneys and lymph node. Mineral oils like paraffin are used in cosmetics because of its low cost in comparison with natural oils 
• Cetyl PEG/PPG-10/1 Dimethicone - this substance is used to prevent separation of the oil and liquid part of the product. It helps the dry skin to look better and it restores skin elasticity. On the other hand it can irritate the skin and according to unconfirmed experiments it can cause even some types of cancer.
• Propylparaben, Methylparaben - parabens are used in cosmetics as a preservative. You can find them in almost all cosmetic products even though they have very bad impact on our health. Parabens simulate the effects of natural hormone estrogen so they cause the hormonal imbalance (which leads to acne, chronical fatigue, weight gain and so on). Parabens can also cause alergic reactions, swelling of the eyelids and there's also a potencional change of conection betweeen parabens and brest cancer.

• Phenoxyethanol - used as a preservative like the parabens. It worsens eczema, can cause alergies. Animal experiemnts showed chromosomal changes, genetic mutations and reproductive damage.
• BHT - one of the most dangerous substances found in the cosmetics. It's used as an antioxidant that retains the stillness of the product. It can damage reproductive system, it causes alergies. The results of animal experiments showed its toxic effects on liver, kidneys, lungs and ovary. BHT is a potentional carciongen.
• Cetyl/PEG/PPG 10/1 Dimethicone

• ethylparaben Butylparaben, Ethylparaben, Isobutylparaben (similar effects as the previous two parabens)

• PEG-10 Dimethicone - silicone used as a preservative and for retaining the stillness. It moisturize and soothes the skin. It can contain impurities, for example the Ethylenoxid that can cause breast cancer, brain cancer and leukemia.
• Methyl Methacrylate - improves the connectivity of the makeup, but can cause alergies and it's toxic for the skin and internal organs too. It can worsen asthma and disrups imune system and nervous system.
• Copolymer  - reduces static electricity and creates continouous layer on the skin. But because of this function, it cloggs the pores and can irritate the skin.

• Cyclopentasiloxane - due to this silicone the product is easily applied and it creates the "silk effect". It can irritate the skin and it's also very dangerous for the environment. It's dangerous especially for the marine life because it gets into the organism of aquatic animals.
• Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate - it appears most often in the ingredients of sunscreen, its function is the UV protection. But it contains particles which lead to cells dead and it also causes alergies and hormonal changes.
