ENGLAND - Part 1: Tower, Tower Bridge & Skyscrapers

London has always been on my list of places I need to visit. During the last two years a lot of my dreams came true - I visited Paris, Amsterodam, Istanbul (+ Bulgaria, Montenegro, Albania, Romania, Bosnia) and now London too. All of these places thas something special, its unique magic. In Paris you just can't now fall in love - at least with the city itself. Amsterdam is known as a city of freedom and those people riding their bikes, the canals and beautiful parks prove it firsthand. Istanbul is the gate to Orient and due to the mosques, Grand Bazar and Muslim population europans can feel like in a completely different world here. England is different because it's unique because it's a city, where the royal family still lives and reigns and so during those few days in London I felt like in a fairytale ...

Tower Bridge London
Our bus left Prostějov on Monday morning. We drove through Germany, Belgium to France, where we went on a ferry on about six o'clock next morning. We spent there about two hours until we arrived to Britain.

We arrived to London about noon, we visited Tower and then we had time to stroll across the Tower Bridge and its neighbourhood, peep into the back streets, buy few souvenirs or local food buy a coffee in Starbucks and take a photo of the cups with the Tower Bridge in the background :D

Tower used to serve as a palace, fortress, armory and also a prison. It's a a vast complex of buildings where you can see objects from the history of London, Castle Guard and listen to the Yeomen Warders aka Beefeaters - London Tower guards. They had to complete twenty-two years of military service and then they guard the crown jewels, they attend the royal ceremonies and they check the whole building before queen's annual speech. I was especially interested in the crown jewels, which are totally becuaituful, all the little details made with diamonds on golden crowns and maces .. If you want to visit the Tower, I highly recommend you to go to see the crown jewels.

Then we went to a tour with our guide upon Thames Coast around the Globe theatre, modern art museum and other monuments which we could visit in our free time (but it was almost impossible because we spent very short time in England). It started to rain a bit and suddenly it turned into very heavy rain so we ended in another Starbucks with a hot chocolate and completely wet clothes and shoes.

In the evening we met our families on the meeting point. We spent two nights with our families and altough we were quite afraid about what family we'll get, at last we had one of the best ones. We stayed at an apartment of about fifty years old women, where we had a room with one double bed and one single bed, the host was friendly, helpful. She also gave us quite good food - but the english cuisine is really nothing for me (sosme fried stuff all the time)
Our conversations looked like this:

The host: *talking about her sister and her veins operation*
We: okay, yes, yes, okay ...
The host: *talking about her visit of Disney Land*
We: Nice, yes, wow, oh ...

In the comparison with the other families we won. Some of the others had families with mess, dirty rooms, spiders, dust and the hosts gave them ready made meals from the supermarket ...
