DIY Coconut & Lavender Body Scrub

I've already written something about why you should use natural (and ideally homemade) cosmetics. But how to make natural cosmetics at home? That's what I'm gonna write about in a new serie of posts :) I started making my own cosmetics a while ago and I feel amazing about it - it doesn't only save a lot of money, but also my skin is also much healthier and looks better than when I was using conventional cosmetics. The first "beauty product" I made at home, was a body scrub. It's great for the whole body and for the face too. It removes dead skin, hydrates your skin and as a bonus - it smells like heaven.

INGREDIENTS:
  • 1/2 cup shredded coconut
  • 1/2 cup sugar (cane or beet sugar)
  • 1/4 cup fine oats
  • *7 Tbsp coconut oil (if your skin is super dry, you can use even more)
  • 5 drops lavander oil
  • 3 drops rosehip oil
  • 5 drops grapefruit seeds oil
Melt the coconut oil, then mix it with the other ingredients. Mix well to blend all the oils together. Oats, coconut and sugar work as exfoliaters that removes the dead skin cells. Coconut oil prevents skin from overdrying. Essential oils used in this recipe have antibacterial properties, they heal scars and calms skin irrations. There's a lot of essential oils you can use - each oil has different effects so I highly recommend to check the post about essential oils on this blog and choose oils which match your skin type.

*Coconut oil is a controversial ingredient. Some people claim that their skin trhives on coconut oil and that it's better than ever before. Other people say that coconut oilk clogs pores and worsen their skin. I believe that we all have a bit different skin and coconut oil may not be suitable for everyone. I recommend using coconut oil on your skin (for example as a makeup remover) for few days and watching if your skin is changing somehow and then use different oil for few days. If coconut oil doesn't suit you, try olive, almond, avocado or jojoba oil.

  1. I love body scrubs. Love it even more when it's homemade diy scrub. Iv never heard of a scrub using grated coconut. Sounds even more amazing. Found your blog thru a Facebook thread and so glad I did. Will be giving your blog a follow, love reading about natural products be in for skin hair or beauty and blog seems to have quite a bit of it.
