Veggies Mini Detox

If we could add one day of fasting a week, our body would get the best detox ever. Just not eating for the whole day, drinking enough water and letting the body to cleanse itself. Honestly ... I personally haven't reached this level of will power yet and not eating for the whole day is one of my future goals, which I'm not able to reach now. So for this purpose, I go through one day fruit&veggies detox from time to time. After a party, after a day when I was eating too much junk food or when I just feel I need a restars. What are the benefits of this detox plan and how to do it?

The health benefitsJust like any other detox, this one day plan helps the digestion. Fruit and vegetables are foods which are easy to digest, so they don't bother our digestive system for a long time. By this you can get rid of bloating, stomach ache and constipation. If you repeat this detox regularly, you can fight the fatigue, get more energy, clearn your skin and reach your optimal weight.

For better results, eat veggies which are high in water - cucumbers, tomatoes, watermelon, celery, grapefruit or leafy greens.

The first time I tried this detox, I just felt I need to give my body a little rest. The next morning, after this detox day (altough I ate a looot of food - bany bananas, peaches, a big piece of watermelon, apricots, two big bowl of salad ... ), I stepped on the weight scale and I realized I lost about two kilograms. It's because sometimes the weight doesn't show how "fat" you are but your body just needs to get rid of the toxines and the food that wasn't digested properly.

WHAT TO EAT
  • fresh and frozen fruit
  • fresh or steamed veggies 
  • herbs and seasonings (avoid salt)
  • + drink a lot of water and tea 

WHAT NOT TO EAT

  • animal products (meat, dairy, eggs)
  • sweeteners (including honey, maple syrup, stevia etc.)
  • grains
  • legumes
  • nuts and sees (or just a tiny amount)
  • processed food
  • salt (use herbs to give a taste to your food)

breakfast
Before breakfast, drink a big glass of lemon water. You can also add a bit of ginger, cayenne and black pepper. 

Then I usually start my day with a big bowl of fresh fruit. If it sounds too boring to you, you can go for a smoothie, raw banana ice cream or smoothie bowl.

TIPS:
  • berry nicecream: 2-3 frozen bananas + handful frozen or fresh raspberries
  • detox smoothie: 2 bananas + handful spinach
  • tropical smoothie bowl: 1 mango + 1 banana + about 1 cup pineapple 
lunch & dinner
I recommend having a big bowl of salad - start with some leafy greens - spinach, kale, arugula ... Then add any other vegetables (or fruit) - tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, carrots, mango, raspberries, avocado ... Another option is a raw soup - you can find a lot of recipes all over the Internet. You need just few ingredients, a blender and about 5 minutes of time :)

TIPS:

  • carrot-beet salad: 3 medium carrots + red beet + 1 apple + 1/4 celery root + a bit of horseradish - clean, peel and grate all the vegetables and add lemon juice to taste
  • green salad: arugula + lamb's lettuce + zucchini cut into small pieces + cucumber + lemon juice 
  • fruit-veggies salad: fresh spinach + arugula + mango + orange 

snacks
Whenever you're hungry, take some more fresh fruit or vegetables :)
