3 Steps To Fall Asleep

All the time we hear that we need to sleep as long as possible, to get enough energy, to be healthy, to have better mood etc. But do we really need nine hours of sleep every night? According to the book "The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari", 6 hours of sleep is absolutely enough. But it depends on the quality of our sleep! If we fidget all the time and our mind if full of thoughts that prevents us from sleeping .... we could sleep for as long as we want but we'd wake up peevish and tired anyway. So today I'd live to share with you my three tips to fall asleep faster and get beautiful sleep :)

Sleep doesn't help if it's your soul thats tired

Get Rid Of The Thoughts
At the end of one of his books, Robert Fulghum describes an amazing way to calm your mind in the evening and fall asleep faster - if you start concentrating on things you didn't finish today or all the demanding activities which are waiting for you, just realize that you can't affect them right now. And so it's nonsense to think about them. Are you really going to get up right now, turn on the lamp on the table and start writting the homework you forgot to write? Or to study? Or to get up, go to the kitchen and do the washing up? Also you don't have to care about anything that will happen the next day. You wont prepare for tomorrow right now in your bed by your thoughts. You'll be just stressed our instead of getting sleep that can give you the energy for demanding next day.
If you're trying to fall asleep and your thoughts are annoying you, try to remember that. This helps me a lot. When the thoughts get into my mind, I just think "Stop. I can't change anything right now ..."

Mindfulness Relaxation
When we sleep, our whole body relaxes. To fall asleep easily, try to focus on every each part of your body and release the tension. Start for example with your fingers. Realize all the fingers on your righ hand, then feel your wrist, your forearm, your elbow ... and continue to your shoulders. Then continue on the other side of your body. Then focus on your upper back and continue down up to the toes. Then concentrate on the front side of your legs - your knees, thighs, through the abdomen up to the neck and face. Release the tension in your face muscles, your lips, your cheeks ... This "mindfulness" meditation perfectly prepares the body for a deep restorative sleep.

Breathing Exercise
We must breath to stay alive. Breath has amazing abilities. When we're stressed out but we know how to control our breath, we can start breathing slowly and calmly and we're suddenly much more relaxed. Just few deep breaths and we feel relaxed, concentrated and we can think clearly. Breathing exercise can help us with falling asleep too. Try not to focus on the thoughts in your head, just feel your breath. How the cold fresh air gets into the nostrils and on the exhale warm air goes back into space. Try to count when you inhale and exhale for the same length of time. Our brain can focus just on several thought at the same time so when you focus on your breath and you count at the same time, the other thoughts can't annoy you. Also try to inhale and everytime you exhale, imagine feeling even more relaxed. Like you are sinking deeper and deeper into the mattress.

Do you have your own tricks for when you're not able to fall asleep ? :)
