If you follow some beauty blogs or youtube channels, you've probably already heared about so called "oil cleansing method". Basically it means deep skin cleansing with a mixture of oils. How to do it properly, what oil should you use and why is this method better than any other cleansing products?
Why you should try "OCM"?In the TV, in the videos and posts on the internet, people recommend and force you to buy differnet types of cleansing gels, oils and micelar water. Unfortunatelly most of the products of conventional cosmetics contain a lot of chemicals which won't bring you long-term positive effects. Oil cleansing is a natural method which has no side effects, it's relatively cheap and mainly it's very effective.
How to chose the right oil?
Differnt oils are suitable for different skin types. So it depends on how much do you know you skin type - it sounds obvious, but in fact many people don't know their skin type well. If you were using conventional cosmetics for a long time, it could change the natural "behaviour" of your skin. For example if you used to use a lot of products for oily skin, as a result your skin may be even more oily than it naturally should be, because it defends against overdrying. So I recommend starting any skin cleansing with products suitable for sensitivte skin. Using these products may help you to see the natural conditions of your skin. Then you can decide if you are going to use an oil for oily, dry or acne prone skin.
I started with coconut oil which didn't fit me very well. On the other hand I was very satisfied with milk thistle oil, avocado oil and rosehip oil. It's possible to mix different oils and you can also add few drops of essential oils which suits your skin type.
How to?
Before oil cleansing, you can remove your makeup. It's not necessary because the oil can remove the makeup itself, but it depends on your preferences - some people prefer to remove the makeup before the oil cleansing because they don't like massaging their face with the remnants of makeup.
Pour a bit of the oil mixture into your palms and start to massage your face. After the massage you should steam your face. There are two way to do that - you can either soak a small towel in a hot water, put it on your face and leave it there for few minutes or you can pour hot water into a bowl, cover your head with a big towel and again stay like this for few minutes.
I do the part with steaming my face just few times a week and for the rest of the days I just remove my makeup with oil, then I massage my face and finally I finish the cleansing with a bit of rose water and a cotton ball.
I've been doing oil cleansing for about two months and I'm definitely going to continue. I've never discovered a better way to clean my skin :)
