“Animals are my friends...and I don't eat my friends.”
― George Bernard Shaw
It's natural― George Bernard Shaw
In prehistory, it was natural for people to kill a mamoth, eat the meat and make a coat from its fur. But we're not living in the prehistory anymore. We live in modern civilization, we have central heating and electricity in our houses and we can buy any kind of food in a supermarket anytime. Things which were natural in past can't be compared with the "naturalness" today. If we'd really like to live naturally, we would have to give up electricity, cosmetics, lights in our apartments etc. Because that's not "natural" too. And if we'd come back to the real beginning we'd have to live in stone hut where we'd use just fire for heating and lighting and eat just some berries ... Some peoples still live like this nowadays but the majority is not into this lifestyle. So talking about "nature" in terms of eating meat, is quite meaningless.
People tend to palliate their behaviour. They don't wanna feel guiltily when they eat meat, so they don't think about where the meat comes from. They don't think about what had happened before they bought the meat at butcher's. They don't realize that someone had to kill the animal and that the animal didn't have nice life at all. People actually think that the animals don't even feel pain. That's not true. Animals are very similar to humans and they have emotions just like we have. Mothers cows love their babies, they feel lonely, happy, stressed out ... And they also feel pain. So in slaughterhouses, they feel just like human would feel.
People are "something more" than animals
Humans are the most advanced animals on earth according to biology at least. We built this civilization, we created a lot of different languages, cultures, we make art, we write books .. And so we feel somehow more important that anything else on this planet. But why should animals be less important just because they live differently? Maybe humans don't undestand life, maybe animals live much more fulfilling life than humans and we just don't see that. If we compared who have impact on the planet, animals would definitely win ... So why do we still feel so condescending?
Regardless of how complicated development the creature had, everyone who want to live should have a right to live.
